Seven ways to beat the recession

Maybe we’re coming out of the recession in the U.K., maybe we’re not. Either way the commercial environment is still challenging for small businesses and even as some sectors start to expand again others will lag behind. This is an important time both to “hang on in there” and to invest in encouraging and developing staff ready for the more solid growth that will come.
  1. Here are seven steps for you and your staff to take together.
  2. Focus on the things you can influence, not on those you can't control.
  3. See where you want to get to, not what you want to escape from.
  4. Review your marketing: seek to serve market sectors that are themselves growing well.
  5. Take time to work out the small "stepping stones" you need to take to get there, and the resources you need.
  6. Don't be a martyr: seek out friends and professional advisers who can help.
  7. Value your achievements.
  8. Spend time with other people who have the same attitude and approach.
